Healthy Custard Fruit Mix

This creamy, colourful custard fruit mix is a beloved South Indian dessert-snack that comes together in minutes. Made with seasonal fresh fruits, chilled vanilla custard, and a drizzle of honey, it is the perfect no-cook treat to beat the summer heat.

Ingredients

  • 500 ml full-fat milk
  • 3 tbsp custard powder (vanilla flavour)
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 1 ripe banana, sliced
  • 1 apple, diced
  • 1 cup mixed grapes (green and black)
  • 1 orange, segmented
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate arils
  • 1/2 cup fresh mango cubes
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • A few mint leaves for garnish

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. In a bowl, dissolve custard powder in 4 tbsp cold milk and set aside.
  2. Heat remaining milk in a pan over medium flame until it begins to steam.
  3. Add sugar and stir until fully dissolved.
  4. Pour in the custard mixture slowly, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  5. Cook on low heat for 4-5 minutes until the custard thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  6. Remove from flame and allow to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Wash, peel, and cut all fruits into bite-sized pieces.
  8. In a large serving bowl, layer the chilled custard over the mixed fruits.
  9. Drizzle honey on top and garnish with fresh mint leaves.
  10. Serve immediately or keep chilled until serving.
Chef's Tip: The custard sets best when cooled gradually. For extra richness, use full-cream milk. This dish needs no oil, making it a perfectly light dessert.
